Mt. Tam clouds painting, Work-in-progress

Here's a quick snapshot of the painting I'm working on as of late April, 2009. It's a really early work in progress, with just the rough underpainting scuffed in.

Getting to this point on a large canvas (5 feet across, in this case) takes me around 12 hours. It'll probably take another 60 or 80 hours of work to finish, spread out over the course of the next few months. I'll put up images of it as I progress.

It's a view toward San Francisco from up on Mt. Tamalpais (one of my favorite spots to draw in the Bay Area).

I've been looking at the epic landscapes painted by the artists of the Hudson River school and am aiming to capture the sweep and drama that I love about their work.
