Gallery of Spore creatures rendered in Maya

Here's a wallpaper gallery of Spore creatures rendered in Maya (scroll down towards the bottom of the page).
They're all built by Spore players, and are the winners of various contests on the Spore site.

This is a little preview, you can see all of the renders at the Spore site linked above...

In my imagination, Spore creatures have always been about 6 inches tall, so I'm rendering them accordingly. Chris asked me to do some renders that make them look life-size, and I'll try that out eventually...

  1. Hello Ocean:

9 years later of this post..., I still can't find the best way to render like you did it (mostly because I'm not a 3D artist), they look like little toys, they look beautiful. Please if you can share with me a Maya file with the setup to render like this I'll appreciate it.

  2. Hi there!

Thanks! I'm afraid that those Maya files are lost in time.
The set-ups were pretty simple, though; just a key light, some global-illumination fill, and lots and lots of depth-of-field to give a toy-scale effect.
I'm using Modo rather than Maya these days or I'd offer to make you an example scene.

    Yours, Ocean
