There's a period in developing a game after all of the art is finished, and the engineers are still fixing bugs, that the artists and art director are distinctly not invited to make further changes. We're basically locked out of the building.
So, to keep me busy, and to show off the game's content, my boss Lucy had me create a bunch of art for marketing. I forget who this one was for. Some magazine probably, or maybe an E3 poster.
I built the big golden tower in the foreground. The modern, silvery building in the background was built by John Frantz. You can tell because of the discrete "JF" he glued to the side of it. (I wonder what happened to John, I haven't seen him in years)
I went a little crazy with the volumetric shafts-of-light effect. It looks like the rapture's taking place and all of the little sims are being called home. But I like the drama of it.
