Ink wash painting

Here's a small, quick, loosely rendered ink-wash painting of my daughter. It's scanned out of one of my sketchbooks.

I've been trying to use these little paintings to work out compositions for larger, more elaborate and resolved oil paintings, but so far without any success. They just seem more or less finished in themselves, and it's not that obvious to me where I should take them...
