Conch shell still life

Here's a still life study from back in '95.

I'd just dropped out of CCAC, and my friend Stephen Jacob got a bunch of other artists together to all rent this giant, unheated warehouse in Potrero hill (a neighborhood in San Francisco). It was huge, big enough for all sorts of projects and artists, but we filled it in no time.

I was the most traditional of the lot, just working away on my paintings, but there were all sorts of other performance, video and theater pieces going on all around me. It was a great time and place to be in your twenties!

This piece is 18" by 24", and done in oil on linen. I borrowed the still life bric-a-brack from Larry Baumiller, as I recall.
