Drawing as a devotion

One of the gifts of drawing as a practice, is that while doing it, the rush of time is stilled and one is present and embodied. It's a way of paying attention to the transient particulars of a life, an act of devotion to the tangible world.

As I've aged, time has accelerated. When he was an old man, dying, my grandfather told me that he felt that his life had passed in the blink of an eye.
Maybe life can't be slowed, but at least it can be noticed. That's one of the things drawing is good for.

  1. Dear Ocean,
Hi, my name is Dan, and I was one of players who got the chance to visit maxis last week. I just wanted to tell you that I'm a recent fan/reader of your blog (the RSS feed is now a resident of my iGoogle page). It's great to see not just your Spore material, but all the work that you do. It's all incredibly impressive.
