Sunflower girl painting

This is another big (5 feet across) oil painting, tentatively titled "Sunflower Girl". It could use a little more work, but honestly, I'm pretty much done with it.

In my imagination, She's walking along kicking over the buckets of flowers as she goes, stopping every now and then to choose one flower or another. I'll leave any symbolic reading up to you...

Here's a detail of the girl; if you click on it you'll be able to see the paint handling and weave of the canvas.

  1. That's funny... even though it is all a painting, the effect it gives me (at least on the computer screen) is of a dimensional scene in the foreground, with a flat matte-painting immediately behind it.

  2. Yeah! I agree. It reminds me of a natural history museum diorama.

One of the things I was after was a clear and distinct spatial relationship between the model and the landscape. I probably went a bit overboard!
