Paired Portraits of the Spotted Man

These are a couple of small (11" by 14") portrait studies in oil of Mr. Spots, in preparation for a large (still in progress) painting.

I'm trying out a severely reduced pallete, just burnt umber, black, white, and ultramarine (so called because it was from beyond the sea, from a mine in Afghanistan, as I was surprised to find out. I just thought that it meant "really blue").
