It's a painting of Arch Rock on the California coast, the same painting that appears in this article in American Artist magazine. The assembled triptych is 36' by 84' and done in oils on stretched linen.
Arch Rock is a really dramatic feature at the end of the Bear Valley trail in Point Reyes National Seashore up on the Marin coast. It's about a four mile hike from the parking lot. Too far to carry giant canvases! So I had to paint it in the studio off of sketches and photographs. That's doable, but is always less fun and energizing than working from life.

Wow! That's a fantastic set of pieces.
ReplyDeleteI particularly like it because I've spent a good bit of time looking at almost precisely that view and that rock... a friend of mine has rented a cabin very near there for a month or two of every year for the last ten years!
